On the Occasion of 1st of May 2001
Workers
and toilers of Iran!
Once more this year
we commemorate May Day, International day of workers solidarity in circumstances
, where the conditions of Iranian workers, toilers and wage earners are
far worse than last year and they face unbearable conditions. All this
for those who have at least kept their jobs! Unemployment is reaching
unprecedented levels and a huge number of workers are facing the threat
of job losses. There is not a single piece of legislation defending workers
rights , nor does the existing useless legislation cover the majority
of workers. Those who have a job have no job security and those who loose
their jobs have no social security. The purchasing power of the majority
of wage earners falls every day and the refusal of capitalists to pay
workers wages has become a routine practise , leaving workers hostage
between unpaid labour and unemployment.
During the "Shah's
great civilisation" the country's wealth was pillaged by the court
and the "thousand families " ( Iran's inter related aristocracy)
and
people's rights were trampled upon, that is why the masses rose against
that regime and brought down the royal system of 2500 years. Then we experienced
the Islamic regime , the rule of God's representatives on earth and their
'justice' , in twenty years they stole 700milliard dollars and instead
they impoverished 70% of the population, pushing them below poverty level.
In their eight year reactionary war, they used the excuse of the war and
then we saw their peace time ! Both at war and at peace the mass of workers
were victims of power mafias . We condemned the conservative rulers for
their responsibility in immiseration of the masses, but we also experienced
their 'moderates'. It didn't even occur to them to
use some of the 7milliard extra oil income last year on settling workers
wages unpaid for more than 2 years, yet they wasted no time buying more
guns and increasing the budget of their repressive forces, because they
too like the regime's conservatives are ready to suppress workers and
force them below poverty line , they too consider depriving workers of
any rights and impoverishing them the legitimate right and class duty
of those in power.
Yesterday worse than the day before, every day envying yesterday, today
in fear of tomorrow. This is how workers look at their future under the
rule of capital, the political dictatorship of the minority. Slogan after
slogan, promise after promise , one experience after another , this what
has been proved over the last 150 years:
"No saviour from on high deliver No trust have we in prince or peer
Our own right hands the chains must shiver Chains of hatred, greed and
fear"
Workers and toilers of Iran!
Political power can only benefit the majority if it is in the hands of
the majority and exercise for the interest of the majority. All those
who take political power instead of and in the name of the majority, eventually
support the interest of a minority of parasites and against the interests
of the majority. That is why the working class has no other option but
to overthrow the ruling political power and take control of its destiny.
First of May , International workers day is the day of class unity against
capital and its state machinery, for the struggle to emancipate the working
class this class unity starts from solidarity between every worker with
his fellow workers in daily struggles, goes on to the formation of independent
workers organisations to improve their working and living conditions ,
by unity amongst various disparate groups ending in class unity and nationwide
workers organisations.
Last year , like other years we had numerous demands regarding trampled
rights and urgent demands. Last year, like the years before it we protested
against these injustices, we staged sit ins , blocked roads and set fire
to tyres. But last year , like the years before it we didn't achieve any
results, we couldn't defeat those who hold power, because this year like
previous years our protests, our efforts we disperse, unorganised and
deprived of the nationwide strength and organisations.
"the only solution is unity and organisation!"
So this year , we will celebrate international workers day , in every
town in Iran , to express our class unity , to form a united nationwide
independent organisation, for a united struggle in defence of our demands
and towards our aim to liberate our class from capital.
